But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. ~ 2 Peter 3:18
Whether you make new year’s resolutions or not, we should all aspire to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ every day. Here are six steps you can take (if you’re not already) to further your walk with God:
Seek God first in everything. Instead of thinking about what you want, think about what God wants of you.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ~ Matthew 6:33
Study the bible. Find a devotional online (Bible.com is a great starting place), do a prepared bible study or study up on the scripture used in church sermons. But you can’t truly seek God if you’re not reading his Word.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Be humble. Pride is a sneaky thing that causes a wedge between us and God, as well as each other.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. ~ 1 Peter 3:8
Pray. This verse says Jesus prayed often. If Jesus, who was God, prayed all the time, then we should probably take note and do the same.
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. ~ Luke 5:16
Praise God for the simple fact that he is God. He deserves all glory and praise and when we worship him with our whole hearts we are brought closer to him.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. ~ Psalm 29:2
Encourage each other. As we grow in grace we don’t need to keep it to ourselves. Instead, we need to share that grace with each other.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:11
We don’t have to wait for the start of a new year to up our Jesus game. We can start any time of any day.
I like sunrises, Mondays, and new seasons. God seems to be saying, “with me you can always start afresh.” ~ Ada Lum
