About Grace 0.1

About Grace & Such

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
~ Ephesians 4:3

In today’s political and cultural climate, with the overwhelming amount of social media, we are an unwilling audience to the hatred among Christians, among fellow believers. God’s grace abounds, yet so many show so little of it toward others. Grace & Such was started as a way to show healthy and gracious conversation, even when we are in disagreement. Our blog includes posts written by a diverse team of women whose only objectives are to share their grace journeys and show what grace-in-action really looks like to the community of believers who, at times, seems to have forgotten how.

Who We Are

As our tagline says, we are a bunch of women writing about grace. And such.

We are a diverse group of women, ranging in age from 20 to 60-something.

Some of us are married; some are divorced; some are single.

Some of us have children; some have grandchildren; some have neither.

Some of us are conservative; some are liberal; some are somewhere in between.

We don’t agree on everything and that’s okay. But here’s what we do agree on:

  • We believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God
  • We believe in one God in three distinct, equal persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • The Father is the creator of all
  • The Son (Jesus Christ) is our salvation and the only way to the Father
  • The Holy Spirit indwells followers of Jesus and is the source through which we are able to live godly lives

Our desire is to encourage other women as we share our thoughts and experiences as well as Biblical truths.

Grace Is Too Easy

By Diane Karchner | September 9, 2015 | 12 Comments

Grace is too easy. That’s what makes it so hard. God soaks us in it, then we are to soak everyone else. Easy peasy. That is until you have to actually do it. On any given day I can let Grace flow.  And the very next, dam it up completely. I used to have what I called my “insider trading” conversations going on in my head full-time. Now they’re just part-time, but they still sound the same. “Well, if she would…then I will…” “Hey, if he hadn’t…then I won’t…” “I think she did that on purpose, so I will not…” “She didn’t even send me a birthday card, so I won’t…her.” I drew these imaginary lines, then made up gunk to stick between them that I rolled between my fingers like play dough to form arrows and barbs and sticks and stones that I used to build my dam. Mental…

Remember What God Has Done

By Terri Stone | September 7, 2015 | 8 Comments

It’s a fact of life; we forget things. We forget little things like where we put our keys, telephone numbers, or to leave something out for dinner. We also tend to forget more important things like a friend’s birthday, an anniversary, or what made us fall in love with our spouse. Sometimes I think we forget the most significant and wonderful thing of all – God’s grace. Many years ago I made a workplace mistake that resulted in my being terminated. It was one of the most difficult times of my life; a time I’ll never forget. There was a dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over me, not knowing if the mistake would follow me into the future. I was scared, ashamed, and filled with remorse. Being a woman who’d always done my best to please people, I’d done the complete opposite; I’d disappointed them. I was sure I’d be…

Mamas Can Change The World

By April Jean | September 4, 2015 | 8 Comments

7:30 PM: I stand in front of the mirror prepping my face for the night. 7:45 PM: A thought passes through my mind similar to, “This is a bad idea.” (Ever have one of those thoughts? Maybe, like me, at times you’ve ignored it too) 8:30 PM: So I proceed. I lie to my mom and then sneak away to a small party. 9:00 PM: The alcohol arrives and we begin indulging. 3:00 AM: The police arrive and we begin hiding. 3:30 AM: Dreaded phone call to mom occurs. 4:00 AM: A shameful walk past my little sister on my way to bed. 9:00 AM: Mom takes me out to breakfast. And she’s loving and calm?!?! My mom cared more about my heart than my behavior. My mom didn’t link my sin to her value as a mother. My mom reminded me that I was more than my decision the…
